Pets are a part of the family, so it is only natural that you would want them to join you on holiday. But there are a few things to consider before leaving home.
1: Location
Choosing a pet-friendly location is vital. There is no point bundling Fido into the car only to find that your motel or hotel does not allow pets.
2: Distance
Plane and boat travel are a bit of a nightmare where pets are concerned, so you will likely choose a destination that you can drive to. Make sure that you correctly restrain your pet in the car so that it is not a distraction while driving.
3: Be Prepared
When you are packing for yourself and the kids, pack for your pet too. Bring their bed, their blanket and clean drinking water. If they are on a special diet, you might not be able to source your usual pet food in a different destination, so it is best to take it with you.
4: Vet Ready
Check with your vet that your pet is healthy enough to travel with you. It is also a good idea to ensure they are microchipped in case they go wandering in an unfamiliar location.
5: Stress Factor
A change in location and routine can be quite stressful for your pet. Be prepared for them to be a little unsettled for the first few days.
