It can be an unsettling thought to go from thinking you have purchased your dream home one day, to completely regretting your decision the next.
Here are our 5 tips on avoiding homebuyer’s remorse:
1: Know What You Want
Have a list of must-haves, nice to haves, and heck no’s when you are viewing property. Do not compromise on the must-haves or the heck no’s as these will be the ones that cause the feeling of remorse. When you find a house that ticks the boxes, complete all the relevant safety checks to give you confidence that you are making a good investment.
2: Don’t Discuss With Friends And Family
Because friends and family have your best interests at heart, they will sometimes question decisions you have made with all the best intentions. Remember that they are not property experts. They may live in a different part of the country, or not understand the current market.
3: Don’t Keep Looking
Once you have found your home, don’t keep looking. Humans have an awful habit of thinking that the grass might be greener on the other side… and it usually isn’t.
4: Pick A Good Agent
Choose a real estate agent who is knowledgeable and present. You want them to guide you through the purchase process, especially if you are a first home buyer. If they are absentee, or unable to answer your questions then that has the potential to raise doubt in your mind.
5: Your Own Paranoia
Buying property is a huge investment, so of course there are going to be doubts that creep into your mind. Nothing in life is certain, so focus on the positives as opposed to the unlikely negatives.
