We all know we should keep on top of new trends in technology, but finding the time, let alone the inclination, is another thing! With new software and hardware solutions coming out seemingly every day, staying in the know can seem like an insurmountable challenge, especially if you’re a technophobe. However, if you want your business to stay ahead of the game, then it’s imperative that you find ways to keep yourself informed of what’s going on in the world of technology. To make it easier, we’ve come up with four ways you can easily keep up.

  1. Buddy up with a technologist

Buddying up with someone else who has expertise and enthusiasm for new technology is a great way to learn. It could be the teenager in your family, a colleague in the workplace or a friend – teaming up with a tech savvy buddy who can demonstrate what they’re using and keep you informed of the latest trends is a great step in the right direction.

  1. Identify a business pain point

Is there a pain point in your business that you would like solved? Maybe it’s issues in staying connected with remote workers or colleagues that are out on the road a lot. Or it could be that you want to automate a repetitive manual task. Whatever the case may be, often it’s easier and more motivating to explore new technology when you are seeking a solution to a problem.

  1. Regularly try out new technology

It’s very easy to get stuck in our ways when it comes to technology. To combat this, make an effort to regularly try out new technology. Make a point of downloading a new app, or learning a different function on a technology that you already use. And while you’re at it, why not try out something new on social media. Making a conscious effort in this way, will help to keep your skills and knowledge up to date without you even realising it.

  1. Give yourself time

In the same way that you block time in your diary or schedule to complete other important tasks, so you should set aside time to keep up with new technology. It doesn’t have to be every week or even every month, but do make an effort to schedule some time on a regular basis. Catch up with your technology buddy, put yourself on a training course, join a webinar or undertake some online training – just make sure that you set the time aside in your calendar.

And if you are implementing a new solution in the workplace, make sure you set aside the time as an organisation for everyone to learn all about it and how to get the best out of it. And implement only one technology at a time so that it isn’t an overwhelming task for you and the business as a whole.

And so if you want to be at the cutting edge with a relevant and efficient business, then it’s time to embrace new technology. Even the technophobes out there can make sure they keep themselves informed. Just use our handy how-to tips and you’ll be able to stay up to date.
