If you’re planning a great American-style road trip this summer, then here are our top three tips to get the most out of the experience.

1.       Make a loose plan

The whole point of a road trip is to enjoy the freedom and spontaneity and so while it’s good to have a plan of the cities you really want to see and the places to visit en route, don’t be too rigid. It’s far more fun to stumble across an awesome location and be free to explore for as long as you want without being tied to a set itinerary.

2.       Buy a gas card

The chances are you’re going to be spending a lot of money on fuel which can translate into a LOT of free fuel points or other freebies. What’s more, a pre-paid fuel card means you can always pay for your fuel even if funds are running low.

3.       Bring cash for tolls

Make sure you have plenty of coins and loose change to pay for tolls. It’s amazing how may toll roads there are and the last thing you want when you get back home is some nasty surprises in the mail with fines for long forgotten tolls encountered on your travels.
