You may not realise it, but the way you eat your food can reveal a great deal about your personality! That’s the key message from new research which has uncovered the hidden truths behind the way we perform seemingly mindless everyday activities. So, let’s find out what these everyday activities say about you.
What kind of eater are you?
Our eating habits apparently can say a lot about our personalities. If you’re a slow eater, then the chances are that you like to be in control and you know how to appreciate life. On the other hand, fast eaters are often ambitious and goal oriented. And if you like trying out different foods and cuisines, then you’re open to new experiences and are willing to step out of your comfort zone. Fussy eaters, on the other hand, are often neurotic in many areas of their lives.
How do you organise your email inbox?
Do you diligently label, file or delete all your emails as soon as you receive them? Well, that means you like to have order in your life and have a tendency to take control. And those of us that read emails but don’t file or delete are likely to be perfectionists who think that they will get around to sorting out all those messages eventually. And if you are one of those people that leaves emails unread, then you may feel overwhelmed with your life, or it may be that you recognise that reading those emails won’t lead to any substantive progress!
What kind of shopper are you?
Our shopping habits can reveal a lot about our appetite for detail. For example, if you’re the sort of shopper who carefully examines every label before making a purchase, then research tells us you are an explanation fiend. As well as scoring high on cognitive reflection, explanation fiends like to over-analyse information and prefer lots of detail. By contrast, if you’re one of those people who simply grabs a product without really looking at the label at all, then you are likely to be an explanation foe. Typically scoring low on measures of cognitive reflection, the explanation foe is not concerned with the details and prefers information to be presented on a more general level.
Are you punctual or incapable of arriving on time?
If your friend is chronically late then it may not be that they are just inconsiderate, it might simply be down to their personality type. You see, the perfectionists among us won’t leave the house until everything is in order, whereas crisis makers are always racing to meet the next deadline. On the other hand, defiers are always rebelling against authority and societal norms. And dreamers are overly optimistic about how much they can get done in a certain amount of time.
What kind of personality are you?
So next time you’re out and about in the supermarket, or are mindlessly checking emails on your phone, take a step back and reflect on what your performance of these everyday tasks says about your personality.
